BDS का पूरा नाम Bachelor of Dental Surgery है. BDS Dental Doctor की एक स्नातक डिग्री होती है. BDS भारत मे पायी जाने वाली बैचलर डिग्री मे से एक है. BDS डिग्री को प्राप्त करने के बाद कोई भी Dental Doctor कर सकता है या अपना भी Clinic Open करके लोगो की सेवा कर सकता है साथ मे Government Job के लिए भी आवेदन कर सकते है.
MBBS के बाद BDS की Medical Science के क्षेत्र मे सबसे ज्यादा मांग की गई है. BDS एक Dentist बनने के लिए Capable बनाता है. Medical Course मे Lectures, Exhibitions, Group Discussions, Seminars, Clinical Work और सम्मेलन भी शामिल है. Candidates Surgical Procedures, Dental Materials, Dental Physiology और Oral Histology, Oral Pathology, Community Dentistry, Paedodontics, Oral Medicine और Radiology इत्यादि सहित विभिन्न प्रकार के उपचार के बारे मे सीखते है.
BDS की डिग्री छात्रो को विभिन्न उपचार जैसे Oral Medicine और Radiology, Dental Materials, Surgery Procedures, Pedodontics, Oral Pathology, Dental Anatomy और Oral Histology और Community Dental Surgery को सिखाता है. यह कोर्स छात्र की पसंद के अनुसार पूरा समय और पार्ट टाईम दोनो मे उपलब्ध है.
जिन छात्रो ने Physics, Chemistry और Biology के साथ विज्ञान धारा मे 10 + 2 परीक्षा उत्तीर्ण की है वे इस कोर्स के लिए पात्र है. इन छात्रो को BDS प्रवेश परीक्षा मे उपस्थित होना और Clear करना है जो राज्य स्तर या राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर हो सकता है. ये प्रवेश परीक्षा विभिन्न कॉलेजो और विश्वविद्यालयो द्वारा आयोजित की जाती है जो BDS कोर्स की पेशकश करते है.

यह एक Ideal Carrier Oriented Course है. BDS की Degree के सफल समापन के बाद एक छात्र किसी भी Private या Government Dental Clinic मे Internship के माध्यम से व्यावहारिक अनुभव प्राप्त कर सकता है. वह व्यावहारिक अनुभव प्राप्त करने के बाद एक Dental Clinic चला सकते है.
एक Qualified Surgeon राज्य या केंद्र सरकार के अस्पतालो में Dentists का काम भी प्राप्त कर सकता है. Pharmaceutical Companies और Medical Equipment Manufacturing Companies मे BDS के लिए विभिन्न करियर विकल्प भी उपलब्ध है. भारतीय सेना भी सेना अस्पतालो मे Dentists की भर्ती करती है. उनकी रुचि और क्षमता के आधार पर BDS डिग्री धारक मास्टर डिग्री के लिए आवेदन कर सकते है.
